Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) is gearing for a major relaunch on Monday, June 21, in which a number of veteran news anchors are expected to be unveiled.

Kenyans.co.ke has learnt that in order to accommodate the high-wattage anchors, the state broadcaster spent millions in the revamp of its studios.

A source from the station confirmed that the station invested in a state-of-the-art studio facility as part of its infrastructure and are gearing up for the acquisition of new broadcast equipment.

The studios spot polished floors and brightly coloured walls mounted with screens. The anchor desk has also been redesigned to upgrade to the standards used by the new team in their previous jobs.

In a statement released by the broadcaster, KBC Editor-in-Chief Samuel Maina confirmed that the changes were necessitated by the changing landscape in the media industry.

The market has been yearning for these anchors. The corporation decided to give them an opportunity to deliver our product to Kenyans. They are also very experienced and will also be training our upcoming anchors to sharpen their anchoring skills.

"(KBC has) invested a lot in software and hardware, a modern television anchoring set, and as such we will fully start broadcasting on High-Definition technology unlike before where we used to combine HD and SD. It’s big-time for us,” he stated.

The new equipment will be sourced from its partner Multichoice in South Africa.
