US Announces Ksh 495M Grants for Kenyan Youth: How to Apply

The United States has announced grants for Kenyan youth worth Ksh495 million through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) program.

Through their Twitter page on Tuesday, October 19, USAID affirmed that it's looking for local youth organizations that can assist in building a community after-school program.

The program aims to perfect reading skills for primary school pupils during the long holiday period.

"Perfecting reading skills for primary school pupils requires effort outside of the schoolhouse. We are looking for local youth organizations who can help us build a community after-school reading program," read part of the statement.

The closing date for applications is November 23, 2021.

Eligible Applicants

i) The local organization must be legally organized under the laws of Kenya.

ii) The entity must have its operations in Kenya.

iii) The organization must be owned and controlled by individuals who are citizens or lawful permanent residents of Kenya.

iv) The entity cannot have received more than Ksh500 million in direct funding from USAID in the past five years.

v) The entity cannot be a US-based organization (US-based organizations are not eligible as prime awardees under the American Physical Society APS).

vi) The organization must have demonstrated expertise in early grade reading pedagogy in the Kenyan context.

How to Apply

i) Log in to apply.grants.gov and key in your username and password.

ii) For a new user, register by filling in the following details: Full name, email address, primary phone number, username, and password.

iii) A confirmation code will be sent to your email address. 

iv) Add organization applicant profiles such as Unique Entity Identifier, profile name, and title.

v) Key in profile details and click submit.

The USAID program continues its initiative in providing state-of-the-art education to millions of children, expanding educational and employment opportunities for young adults, and preparing a new generation of young African leaders with the skills and mindset to transform the region and the continent.
