Police in Mandera County have rescued a 14-year-old boy who had been set a blaze by his brothers.

According to a statement by the Directive of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the brothers turned on their own sibling, who was a witness in a case involving one of them.

The class seven pupil had been named as a witness in a case where one of his brothers was accused of stealing a mobile phone.

In a bid to clear any links to the crime, the two brothers hatched a plan to get rid of their sibling.

"The class seven pupil at Kamor Primary School in Mandera, was lured to their house by his mischievous brothers, before being rolled up in a mattress," the DCI statement read in part.

The brothers then drenched the mattress in petrol before setting it on fire before fleeing from the house, leaving him for dead.

However, as fate would have hit, police officers on patrol saw fire emanating from the house and rushed to the scene. They found the 14-year-old burning alive.

They immediately rescued him, freeing him from the mattress, and rushed him to Mandera County Referral Hospital.

He was admitted in the facility to receive medical attention and is currently under critical care.

Police have launched a manhunt for the two brothers, whose whereabouts remain unknown. They have also provided a toll-free number which citizens can use to tip off the detectives anonymously.
