Residents of Mlolongo area of Machakos County, woke up to sad news after an early morning fire razed down roadside market structures and spread to nearby buildings.
According to a resident who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, September 7, the huge fire razed down most of the stalls in the roadside market at Inner City area, opposite the weighbridge.
The resident further told Kenyans.co.ke that the residents and traders were in the early morning hours struggling to contain the huge inferno while others tried to salvage their belongings.
Very little was salvaged from the affected stalls and buildings as the fire rapidly spread leaving behind a trail of destruction.
By the time of going to press, authorities were yet to establish the cause of the inferno as well as give an account of the assessment and the magnitude of the losses incurred.
