Kisumu County government has on September 6, 2021, stated that preliminary reports indicate the fire incident at Kisumu Huduma center was a case of arson.
While addressing the media, Kisumu County Director of Communication, Alloice Agger, stated that the investigation team is fully focusing on finding out who started the fire, after it emerged that the act was intentional.
“Following investigations launched by law enforcement agencies regarding the fire that gutted part of the 9th floor of Prosperity House on Sunday, prima facie evidence so far reveals a high possibility of arson,” Agger stated.
Agger further stated that the conclusive report will be released after the multi-agency team completes their full investigations.
In the meantime, he urged the public to remain calm and avoid unnecessary speculations on the incident.
“The County Government requests the public to remain calm while the team carries out its work thoroughly and professionally to get to the bottom of this incident,” Agger urged.
During a press briefing on September 5, 2021, Kisumu County Central Deputy County Commissioner, John Cheruiyot stated that the fire incident on the 9th floor broke out at around 4.30 pm.
Cheruiyot stated that despite the quick response by the Fire Department at the county headquarters, little could be salvaged from the incident.
The fire, which broke out on the 9th floor engulfed most parts of the county’s Lands and Urban Planning offices.
Among the items that were destroyed include office computers, office files, and furniture.
The prosperity building hosts Huduma center, government agency offices, and the Kisumu County offices.
