Fire incidents though rare have been reported in Kisumu. On July 27, a popular hardware shop was razed down leading to a loss of property worth millions.

The fire started in mid-morning hours at the Modern Electrical and Hardware with firefighters responding but struggled to put out the huge inferno that had engulfed the premises.

Counties are reported to have poor fire management systems with a lack of equipment for the residents.
