Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has joined calls to have lawyer Miguna Miguna allowed back in the country, as his planned return nears.

UDA Chairperson, Johnson Muthama, through his Twitter handle, stated that the hustler fraternity was thrilled by the coming of Miguna Miguna and were willing to embrace him when he lands on November 16, 2021.

“Meanwhile, Hustler nation welcomes him back home with both hands,” stated Muthama.

The former Machakos county senator also urged President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga to consider receiving Miguna upon his arrival, protesting that Miguna’s woes were as a result of political intolerance.

“Now that Miguna Miguna has announced his homecoming on November, 16, 2021, I appeal to Raila & his brother to simply allow him back home. Politics shouldn't allow us to deprive others of their rights & livelihood,” he expressed.

The vocal politician also took a jibe at Odinga for abandoning Miguna in his time of need, by not addressing his rights, despite the support he gave to the former premier during the 2017 elections and after-election clamor for justice.

Miguna led the opposition parties in protesting President Kenyatta’s victory through the National Resistance Movement (NRM), which was made of National Super Alliance (NASA) affiliate parties.

Miguna, through the NRM, led the NASA camp that vehemently denounced the legality of the 2017 presidential poll results.

In a bid to counter lawlessness caused by protesters, the government outlawed NRM, terming it as an organized unlawful group, making it possible to apprehend and prosecute Miguna who declared himself as the group’s general.

Miguna was later apprehended and deported by the government, after he administered a presidential oath of office to NASA Chief, Raila Odinga, in a mock swearing-in ceremony at Uhuru Park in 2018.

The Canadian attorney’s planned journey to Kenya was orchestrated by former Chief Justice, Willy Mutunga, who promised to accompany him aboard.

Other leaders expected to accompany him include Law Society of Kenya President, Nelson Havi, and activist Boniface Mwangi.
