10 Seriously Injured In Thika Superhighway Accident

Ten people were seriously injured Wednesday, after a multiple car accident happened along the Thika superhighway.

The accidents which occurred at the Juja Bridge involved two matatus, two Probox vehicles and a lorry that was transporting sand from Witeithie.

It alleged that a lorry driving at high speed, rammed into five vehicles, after which the lorry driver fled The Star reports.

The accident is said to have caused heavy traffic snarl up along the busy highway until traffic police officers from Juja and Ruiru arrived to clear the accident scene.

According to eye witnesses the accident was caused by bodaboda riders who were protesting against alleged harassment by county council officers who they claim are demanding bribes from motorcyclists using the superhighway, Citizen News reports.

The 10 casualties who suffered leg and head injuries are receiving treatment at the Thika Level Five Hospital.
