Details of Raila's 7-Day Trip to US

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya presidential flag-bearer Raila Odinga is scheduled to fly to the United States on Friday, April 22 for a seven-day trip. 

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke Raila's campaign spokesperson, Prof Makau Mutua, affirmed that the former Premier would return on Friday, April 29. He, however, pointed out that the full itinerary would be released at a later date. 

Raila is expected to vouch for his presidential bid and the US to rally behind his candidature ahead of the August polls.

He will also reaffirm his commitment to nurture a cordial mutual relationship between Nairobi and Washington, should he succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta. 

Media reports had indicated that Raila will begin his tour in Washington DC before heading to San Francisco. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader is expected to meet US leaders in the nation's capital.

Raila will be flanked by Azimio luminaries including NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua, former Aldai MP Sally Kosgey, Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, James Ongwae (Kisii governor) and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang. 

The trip comes a month after Raila toured the United Kingdom, where he conducted media interviews and also met with Kenyans in the diaspora. 

The former Prime Minister will be seeking to consolidate his votes at with the country barely three months away from the General Election. 

Deputy President William Ruto also visited the US in late February where he met a host of leaders including Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts.

The DP also spoke at the University of Arizona's Washington Entrepreneurship Hub and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

As clock the ticks towards August 9, the two Presidential front runners are in a race against time to woo voters and are leaving nothing to chance, including seeking endorsements from other countries.
