Social media giant, Twitter,  announced that its much-requested editing feature will soon expand to subscribers on Twitter’s Blue service later this month.

Twitter Blue is available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. On Thursday, September 1, through its handle, the social media company underlined that it was still testing the new feature with the test limited to one country.

“If you see an edited Tweet it's because we're testing the edit button this is happening and you'll be okay,” it stated.

The new editing feature will allow users to edit tweets up to 30 minutes after they are published but will allow people to view prior versions of the tweet.

Interestingly, the tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp, and label to make clear that the original post has been modified. However, tapping the label will take viewers to an edit history, which will include past versions of the tweet.

“The time limit and version history play an important role here. They help protect the integrity of the conversation and create a publicly accessible record of what was said,” the company said.

Further, Twitter said the edit button was the platform’s most requested feature by million of its users.

The social media giant also said its users should view the trial feature for a short period of time to be able to fix typing errors and missed tags.

“We’re hoping that, with the availability of edit tweets, tweeting will feel more approachable and less stressful. You should be able to participate in the conversation in a way that makes sense to you, and we’ll keep working on ways that make it feel effortless to do just that,” Twitter stated.

Back in April, the tech firm announced plans to work on unveiling the editing button after the American billionaire Elon Musk created a poll on the subject. Musk attempted to buy the company but his efforts failed with several issues cited.

The billionaire, Musk claimed that he backed out because Twitter failed to provide enough information on the number of spam and fake account

Additionally, the company also sued the billionaire after he tried to exit the deal. Twitter moved to a Delaware court to compel Musk to purchase it.

In the legal battle, Twitter is seeking an order allowing Musk to complete the deal as agreed.

However, Musk says the tech giant looks less attractive after the global economy wobbled and interest rates rose which resulted in its shares going down.
