VIDEO: GSU Officers Allegedly Steal Millions From Mall

Police in Nairobi have arrested two General Service Unit (GSU) officers and a former GSU officer over an alleged burglary incident.

The three are among six other suspects accused of breaking into a mall in Eastleigh – United Textile Mall – and making away with property worth millions.

Confirming the incident Starehe OCPD Ben Nyakwaka said the officers had stolen; Sh1.4 million in cash, 17,000 US dollars and jewelry estimated to be worth 3 million shillings.

Flying squad officers, however, managed to arrest the suspects and recovered the loot.

The two serving officers are said to have been arrested on Wednesday at the GSU Ruaraka camp, while the Ex-GSU officer was arrested at a city hotel.

The suspects were arraigned in court on Thursday morning but police requested for more time to complete investigations into the robbery. Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku ordered they be detained for 10 days.

The incident comes barely two weeks after a GSU lorry was seized ferrying illegal Ethiopian immigrants.
