Kenyans Lose to Farah Yet Again

Defending Champion Mo Farah on Saturday took Gold in the 5,000m race at the IAAF Championships as Kenya's Caleb Mwangangi settled for Silver.

It was a tough loss for Mwangangi who led the race all the way to the final lap when Farah powered his way past the Kenyan on the homestretch to grab his second straight win at a time of 13:50.38.

Mwangangi, who is the Africa Continental Cup and 2014 Diamond League Champion came in second at 13:51.75 with Ethiopia’s former World Cross Country Junior Champion Hagos Gebrhiwet claiming the bronze in 13:51.86.

Mwangangi was the only Kenyan in the top five with Isaiah Kiplangat and Edwin Soi taking eighth and tenth positions respectively.

Despite managing to stay at the top of the medal standings for one straight week, Kenya failed to strengthen it's lead.

This is the second time Britain's Mo Farah has managed to upstage the Kenyans, having retained the 10,000m title on opening day, beating Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor and Paul Tanui to Silver and Bronze respectively.

Mwangangi's silver in the 5,000m race was Kenya's second of the day after Eunice Sum settled for bronze in the 800m Women's race losing her title to Marina Arzamasova from Belarus.

Kenya still remains at the top of the medal standings, with six Gold, four Silver and 3 Bronze bringing their medal tally to 13 total.

The United States and Jamaica are second and third respectively.
