Popularly known by his self-styled title Mkurugenzi, Abel Mutua is a filmmaker, scriptwriter, actor and content creator.
He first rose to national prominence for his starring role in Citizen TV’s Tahidi High where he was casted as Freddie, a mischievous character.
Recently, he is more famous for his YouTube content where he runs 2 parallel series namely Young and Stupid where he narrates interesting real life stories and Headline Hitters where he recaps interesting global news in a creative narrative style.
He has also gained recognition for his role as a TV producer. He has created, directed and written the scripts for Sue and Johnnie, a comedy show and Click Click Bang, a Kenyan film which grossed Ksh2.5 million in ticket sales.
In 2023, the movie was acquired by Netflix, which marked a significant boost for the local production industry.
He has also written scripts for other notable shows including; Anda Kava, The Real Househelps of Kawangware and Hapa Kule News among others.
Mutua co-owns Phil-it Productions with his long-time friend Philip Karanja.
He is currently thriving on short form content with his YouTube channel having over 500,000 subscribers.
