Agnes Ngetich is a Kenyan long-distance runner who, at just 23, has already achieved many records to her name.
Ngetich made headlines when she won two medals at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships, securing bronze in the senior women's race and team gold, held in Bathurst, Australia.
The young runner was no stranger to milestones, having broken the women-only world 10km record at the Transylvania 10km in Brașov, Romania, with a time of 29:24 in September 2023.
In January 2024, Ngetich set a new 10km world record in Valencia with a time of 28:46, surpassing the previously held record by 28 seconds.
She also holds the second-fastest half marathon mark in history, completing the 21.1-kilometer race in 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 4 seconds during the 10km event in Valencia earlier that year.
Born on January 23, 2001, in Kinamget Tabare village, Elgeyo Marakwet County, Keiyo South, Ngetich discovered her running talent while participating in various school activities during her primary school years.
Though she did not initially pursue athletics seriously, her life took a turn in 2016 after the death of her father, which pushed her family into poverty. It was then that she ventured into athletics, hoping to uplift her family.
In October 2024, Ngetich was nominated for the Female Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year by World Athletics.
