Kipyegon is renowned for her prowess in the 1,500-metre category. She, however, set an unprecedented 2023 season by breaking three world records within months.

On June 2, 2023, Kipyegon set a new world record in the 1,500 metres category by clocking 3:49:11 in the Florence Diamond League.

A week later, she broke the 5,000 metres world record after setting a time of 14:05:20 at the Diamond League event held in Paris, France.

Due to her incredible performances this year, she was nominated for the World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year Award.

Following her record-breaking victories, Kipyegon received Ksh5 million and a three-bedroom house worth Ksh6 million from President William Ruto.

Her entry into athletics began in 2010 when she won the women's 10-Kilometre event.

Since then, she has had a stellar career, placing Kenya on the map in the 1,500 and 5,000 metres events.

She scooped her first gold, three months after her debut, at the Doha Wanda Diamond League event, where she clocked in at 3:58:57.

Over the years, she has won the 2016 and 2020 Olympic championships in the 1,500 metre race and also the World Champion in 2022.
