Gideon Muriuki

Dr Gideon Muriuki is the Group Managing Director and the Chief Executive Officer of Co-operative Bank.

He has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry and has served as Co-op MD since 2021.

Under his leadership, the financial institution scooped the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) 2022 Sustainable Finance Catalyst Awards in October.

During the October 2022 awards, the Bank was recognised as the Best Bank in Financing Commercial Clients and the Most Innovative Bank in Sustainable Finance.

On November 22, the bank recorded a profit before tax of Ksh22.7 billion for the third quarter of 2022. 

He is also credited for leading the bank to register a profit before tax of Kshs22.6 Billion in 2021.

The milestones of the bank have seen him feted as the best CEO in the banking industry in Africa during the African Banking Awards in 2021 where he was recognised for retaining the bank's staff despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

He is also a recipient of the Chevalier de L’ordre National du Burkina Faso conferred to him by the President of Burkina Faso and the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) here in Kenya.
