Hellen Obiri

Hellen Onsando Obiri is a middle and long-distance athlete. 

She is one of the most decorated Kenyan female athletes, having won the New York City Marathon in November 2023. 

The win was her second following another triumph at the Boston Marathon where she clocked 2:21:38. 

Obiri is famous  for her two-time Olympic 5000-metre silver medals earned from the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 

She first gained international fame in 2011 during the World Military Games and has since added several titles to her name. 

The athlete won gold in the 2017 World Championships in London and defended her title at the 2019 World Championships, in Doha. 

She also set a record and world lead at the 2020 Diamond League in Monaco, France. 

Due to her achievements, Obiri has bagged several awards including the Sports Woman of the Year in 2019 during the annual Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
