Irungu Kang'ata

Irungu Kang'ata is the second Governor of Murang'a County, having been elected into office in August 2022.

Governor Kang'ata is an accomplished lawyer with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in law.

Known for his humble and outgoing nature, the governor has accumulated a wealth of experience in public service, having served as an elected Ward Councillor in Murang'a Town, Kiharu Member of Parliament, and Senator for Murang'a County.

His stellar career in public service, as well as his professional life as a lawyer and law lecturer, has earned him several accolades.

Irungu’s non-confrontational, conciliatory nature and incredible track record as a governor have earned him favour among the electorate.

As a governor, Kang'ata has revitalised the agricultural sector in Murang'a through the distribution of free fertiliser and seedlings to residents.

In October this year, Kang'ata distributed certified maize seedlings and fertiliser to about 70,000 farmers, including 57,000 registered and 13,000 unregistered farmers in Murang'a, to boost food security.

He has also improved the healthcare system in the county through a functional Universal Healthcare Programme and the construction of health facilities.

Kang'ata has boosted local traders and businesses by reducing licence fees and taxes, allocating grants, business loans, and facilities to cooperatives, as well as providing technical entrepreneurial skills training to the youth.
