
Media personality Janet Mbugua picked up from where she left off in 2023 and continued with her impactful work in women empowerment and global leadership in 2024.
Whether it was by moderating panel sessions, emceeiing events, launching initiatives or getting involved in community outreach programs, Janet voiced the agenda of gender equality without fail.
She hosted Goalkeepers2024, a high-profile global event under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that seeks to fight poverty, disease and inequity around the world.
She was a co-chair in the Reykjavík Global Forum and took part in Breaking the Bias: Women Leaders Redefining Progress & Perception conference, tackling the unique challenges women face, the strategies making an impact, and reasons for optimism.
Over the African continent, Janet also participated in initiatives that aimed to promote gender equality. She joined hands with Pan-African advocates, led by Anita Zaidi, President of the Gender Division at the Gates Foundation to discuss solutions to counter anti-gender rhetoric.
Through her Inua Dada Foundation, which seeks to help girls and advocate for access to menstrual healthcare and products, Janet partnered with Wash United in the #PeriodFriendlyWorld campaign to amplify voices seeking menstrual justice.
Aside from this, Janet also voiced her support for the June-August Gen Z protests against the Finance Bill 2024 and participated in Citizen Assemblies that sought to provide civic education and raise awareness against social injustices.
Janet was recognized for her emceeing prowess and awarded the Most Elite Emcee of The Year 2024 at the Consumer Choice Awards Africa on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
