Nelson Amenya became the talk of the town when news of the intended Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA) became a hot topic this year.
Amenya was the sole whistleblower in the secret government dealings with the Indian conglomerate of companies, Adani International.
Amenya’s revelations about the controversial plan to lease Kenya's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Adani Airport Holdings Limited sparked national outrage earlier this year. His actions not only halted a multi-billion-dollar deal but also reignited critical discussions on transparency, governance, and accountability.
He did not give up the fight, which saw him land in protracted legal battles with some people within the government as well as life threats. All these did not deter him from achieving his dream of seeing Adani go.
This ultimately compelled President William Ruto to reverse the state’s engagement with Adani, directing the Ministries of Transport and Treasury to cancel any procurement dealings with the company.
Amenya gained prominence on social media for his pivotal role in ensuring that Kenyan airports were not handed over to foreigners under unclear circumstances.
He currently serves as a co-founder of a climate finance company based in Paris, France, which develops carbon offset projects in East Africa, Southern Africa, and the Sahel regions.
Before transitioning to his current role, Amenya worked at Majid Al Futtaim, a multinational Emirati company that operates Carrefour hypermarkets across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
In terms of education, Amenya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Moi University, Kenya, and a Master of Business Administration from HEC Paris.
Additionally, he attended Muthaiga Primary School in Nairobi and Nyeri Baptist High School, where he excelled academically before proceeding to university.
