Tom Gitogo

The year 2024 has been a massively positive one for Britam and its Chief Executive Officer, Tom Gitogo, is a big reason why.

With Gitogo in charge, Britam achieved monumental profit margins, highlighting his leadership qualities as Britam sustained its reputation as one of the leading financial and investment firms in Kenya.

In 2024, Britam reported significant financial growth, with a 22.5 per cent increase in net earnings for the first year, reaching KSh2 billion. This marked a rise from KSh1.64 billion, driven by increased investment income.

In 2024, Gitogo oversaw several initiatives that addressed pressing challenges such as climate change and SME resilience. Britam introduced insurance solutions tailored to flood-related risks, paying over KSh20 million in claims to affected households using advanced technology to automate payouts without traditional paperwork.

Furthermore, the company also launched the Britam Business Network in Nakuru, aimed at supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through tailored solutions and fostering resilience amidst financial and regulatory hurdles.

Gitogo's leadership and acumen in developing innovative strategies also fostered a strong emphasis on digital transformation. Britam expanded its product offerings, particularly in microinsurance, and improved customer engagement through digital channels. The company's focus on digitisation is part of a broader strategy to enhance customer experiences and operational efficiencies.

In line with the fresh innovative solutions, Gitogo led efforts to align Britam’s operations with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. Britam leveraged its microinsurance operations to cater to underserved populations while developing initiatives to enhance disaster preparedness and sustainable development in Kenya and the East African region.

Speaking of the EA region, Britam, under Gitogo, is eyeing an entry into the lucrative Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) market as it seeks to implement its ambitious 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. The plans are at advanced stages, with the firm already identifying some opportunities.

Gitogo’s endeavours did not go unnoticed, as Britam Life Assurance Company won the Life Insurance Company of the Year Award at the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) annual awards for the 17th consecutive year in March 2024. This was in addition to the Agent of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
