
Kuria was first elected as the Gatundu South MP unopposed in the 2013 general elections following the death of Hon. Jossy Ngugi who had been elected on a TNA ticket. He would then be re-elected in 2017.
Kuria, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, has firmly indicated that he is against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
In February 2021, Kuria submitted a legislative proposal to the Speaker of the National Assembly for an acceptable win-win solution for the two thirds gender rule.
He proposed the retaining of the 47 women reps in the National Assembly, 47 women reps in the Senate and 3 women MPs in the National Assembly to represent the youth and persons with disability.
