In a bid to foster economic growth and community development in the Kerio Valley region, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) have formalised a strategic partnership.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at the KNCCI Headquarters in Telkom Plaza, Nairobi, was officiated by Chamber President Dr. Erick Rutto and KVDA Managing Director Mr. Sammy Naporos, with Agnes Mwaura, KVDA's Head of Nairobi Region, also present.

The MoU aims to establish a collaborative framework between KVDA and KNCCI, focusing on several key areas. These include enhancing market access for products from the six counties comprising West Pokot, Turkana, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, and Nakuru, which collectively house a population of 3.5 million. The partnership also seeks to bolster capacity building for local entrepreneurs, tackle regulatory barriers, advocate for supportive policies, mobilise resources, and promote sustainable production methods and environmental conservation.

Central to their goals is KVDA's ambition to increase honey sales from 3 tonnes to 5 tonnes monthly, with a long-term target of 10 tonnes for both local consumption and international markets. KNCCI's involvement will extend to training farmers in honey production techniques, mango farming, and tree seedling cultivation, enhancing agricultural skills, and promoting sustainable practices.
