Tanzania Private Sector Week (TPSW) 2024 has been launched, marking a significant milestone in the nation's economic development. Organised by the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) in partnership with TradeMark Africa (TMA), this event is strategically set to influence the business landscape and drive private sector-led economic growth. Funded by UK International Development, Norway, and Ireland, TPSW 2024 serves as a platform to reflect on the private sector's journey, addressing key challenges and successes.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, TPSF underscores its commitment to advancing Tanzania's private sector. The theme for this year, “TPSF at 25: A Legacy of Championing Private Sector Growth Towards Vision 2050,” aims to foster an inclusive dialogue, celebrating the sector’s progress while envisioning its future trajectory. This theme highlights the private sector's crucial role in economic growth and social transformation.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa officiated the week-long event, acknowledging the vital contribution of the private sector to the economy. He emphasised the need for government ministries, departments, and agencies to work on recommendations aimed at improving the ease of doing business in the country. “I, therefore, direct all government MDAs to receive and work on private sector recommendations,” he stated, highlighting the government's commitment to fostering a conducive business environment.
Key highlights of TPSW 2024 include dialogues on Freight and Logistics, and the evolution of the private sector over the past 25 years. These discussions provide insights into the transformative journey of Tanzania’s private sector, its current state, and projections for the next quarter-century. TPSF Board Chairperson, Ms. Angelina Ngalula, and TMA’s Country Director, Mr. Elibariki Shammy, both emphasised the importance of collaboration and dialogue in driving economic growth, job creation, and social transformation.
