1 Man Shot in Homa Bay after Governor Cyprian Awiti was Declared Winner

One person was on Tuesday morning shot in the leg after tension arose in the ongoing Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) nominations in Homa Bay county.

Tension arose after incumbent Governor Cyprian Awiti was controversially declared the winner as residents accused him of rigging.

The young man was shot as police tried to disperse the rowdy youth.

The Homa Bay ODM County returning officer Erastus Otieno announced that Awiti had won with 46,346 votes against his rival Oyugi Magwanga's 14,661.

Residents demonstrated in the streets as they shouted that they would support Jubilee party leader Uhuru Kenyatta in August if Magwanga was not declared the winner.

"This is clearly rigging. We will not agree. We will vote President Uhuru Kenyatta in August. Awiti has not done anything," one of the protesters said.

On Monday evening, Magwanga had a commanding lead against the incumbent hence the accusations of rigging
