10 people have been confirmed dead, following a tragic road accident where the vehicle they were travelling in was swept away by raging floods at Nyakibai, Gatundu North, Kiambu County.
Confirming the Sunday 1am incident, Gatundu North OCPD Bernard Muli noted that the 14-seater matatu was trying to navigate River Nyakibai before it rolled and plunged into the River, which had flooded after heavy downpour.
The deceased were coming from a dowry ceremony in Nyahururu and were headed to their Gathugu village in Kandara, Murang’a County.
The bodies were found floating in the banks of the river, with rescue operations to find more bodies lasting for three hours.
Seven survivors of the fatal accident were treated and discharged.
The recovered bodies were transferred to the General Kago mortuary.
This comes as the latest casualty incident since the onset of the ongoing heavy rains.
