10 Governors Missed Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua's Burial

10 Governors were conspicuously missing from the burial of former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua held on Monday at his Hiriga home in Mathira Constituency.

Chairman of the Council of Governors Peter Munya, who is also the Meru Governor, introduced 36 county bosses in attendance including himself.

Among those who did not make an appearance included Embu Governor Martin Wambora who was represented by his deputy Dorothy Nditi.

Others who were not at the state burial were Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adam, Isiolo's Godana Doyo, Simon Kitalei (West Pokot), Salim Mvurya (Kwale), Issa Timamy (Lamu), Ali Roba (Mandera), Zachary Okoth Obado (Migori), Hussein Dado (Tana River) and Ahmed Abdullahi (Wajir).

Nonetheless, Governor Munya was impressed by the huge turnout of the County bosses at Gachagua's burial stating: "The fact that a record of 35 Governors have attended tells you the respect nd honour they had for their colleague Nderitu Gachagua."

The Meru Governor mourned Gachagua as a courageous man even when he was ailing.

"I saw a man who carried the baggage of sickness with a lot of courage, determination and very high spirit. He was not a man who would indulge in self-pity," he mentioned.

Munya also praised Gachagua's commitment to upholding devolution.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto, former President Mwai Kibaki and Opposition leader Raila Odinga were some of the high-profile guests at the burial.
