Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday dismissed allegations that his office was allocated Ksh2.6 billion in the upcoming 2024/2025 financial year.

In a notice sent to Kenyans.co.ke, the Deputy President noted the reports by a section of the media contrasted the exact figures requested by his office to the national treasury.

According to the DP, he only requested Ksh300 million for the renovation of his Harambee House Annex Office, Nairobi, and his other official residence in Mombasa.

Similarly, Gachagua revealed that his office also requested Ksh100 million to facilitate the purchase of new cars.

The DP noted that for the last 10 years, the office of the Deputy President heavily relied on old and refurbished vehicles for service delivery.

While defending the Ksh100 million request for cars, Gachagua stated that the old cars were costly to maintain thus hampered his work.

Additionally, the Harambee House Annex Office and Mombasa Residence had been neglected over the last 15 years affecting critical areas of habitability, safety and security.

"The misrepresentation of facts and figures negates objectivity. The facts are captured in the Hansard, which is a public document," Gachagua stated.

Gachagua's clarification comes a day after reports went viral about the deputy president's exorbitant allocation demand for the renovation works at his office.

The reports alleged that the DP demanded a Ksh2.6 billion allocation for his office through documents shared with the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs.

The alleged report further claimed that a huge chunk of the money would go towards the repair works at Harambee House and his office in Mombasa.

According to the flagged report, the office intends to use Ksh460 million and Ksh660 million out of the alleged Ksh2.6 billion to renovate the Harambee Annex and Karen residences respectively.
