Kenya Met Weekend Weather Updates: Rains to Persist In Several Parts Including Nairobi

The Kenya Meteorological Department on Thursday announced that rains were set to persist in several parts of the country including Nairobi.

Kenya Met in its five-day weather forecast revealed that while some regions would receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, others were set to receive moderate rainfall.

Among regions expected to experience heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms included the Highlands West regions of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.

Counties in the above regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo-Marakwet.

Others are; Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.

According to the weather department, the above areas would receive heavy downpours in the afternoon with the rains expected to persist throughout the weekend.

Meanwhile, moderate rainfall would be experienced in the Highlands East regions of the Rift Valley, encompassing Nairobi County.

In its forecast, Kenya Met noted that the rains in these regions would begin in the afternoon after sunny and cloudy intervals.

Following the forecast, Kenyans were urged to be cautious with drivers warned of slippery roads.

“With moderate rains being experienced in several parts of Nairobi and likely to persist until the weekend, we urge commuters to take precautions,” the Kenya Red Cross warned.

Similarly, the North-western region of Turkana and Samburu counties were projected to experience sunny and cloudy conditions throughout the day.

Other parts that were expected to remain dry included the Coastal region which includes the counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale.
