Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua extended an olive branch to former President Uhuru Kenyatta to reconcile and mend their differences amid political uncertainty which has left the country's second in command in limbo.

Speaking during a stopover in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua asked Uhuru if they can work together for the larger common goal of ensuring that the Mt. Kenya region continues to prosper.

He, however, warned that failure to do so would lead to the mountain experiencing a myriad of challenges.

"Uhuru Kenyatta is our child. Let him come so that we can join hands together. Is there anyone who has a problem with him? Aren't elections over?" the DP posed.

"Now we should join hands as children of the mountain and love each other because if we don't do so, we will go through a lot of problems. Do you want us to unite?" he asked the crowd which responded in agreement.

The DP, who has been a fierce critic of Uhuru, has in the recent past been perceived to take a different political direction amid reports of a fallout with President William Ruto.

In March 2024, Gachagua sought forgiveness from former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta for his remarks made in the buildup to the 2022 elections.

Further, Gachagua recently vowed to lead the One Man One Shilling One Vote campaign, a debate that has proven to be a political hot potato and split opinion right between the middle between its proponents versus its critics.

Mt Kenya leaders have in the past called on Gachagua and Uhuru to work together and forge a united front to steer the region ahead.

During the Limuru 3 event held on Saturday, May 18, the Kikuyu Council of Elders member Wachira Kiago endorsed a Gachagua-Uhuru handshake and called on the two leaders to convene a meeting and call a truce.

The DP, however, assured Mt Kenya residents that the region would not be fooled nor swayed to veer in the wrong direction.

"It is too early to start fighting over the 2027 and 2032 polls. Leadership comes from God. Let us work for the people for if it is about positions, relax and God will give them to you," Gachagua stated on Tuesday, May 21.

The DP was missing in action this past week with his silence loud enough as he skipped key presidential events, raising speculation over his relations with President William Ruto and alleged isolation in the ruling party.

Gachagua, however, dismissed the claims and stated that he had taken time to pray in Mt. Kenya.
