A police officer sustained serious injuries after a lion charged into a police station in Meru County.

It was reported that on Monday, a few minutes past midnight that the lion charged and attacked an officer who was making a phone call a few metres away from the police camp.

The officer who is attached at the Timau Police Station is said to have been alerted by his colleagues after they spotted the animal.

Reports indicate that his colleagues were forced to make noise to distract the animal, allowing the officer to escape narrowly.

Despite managing to escape, the officer sustained injuries on his left shoulder, left knee and right thigh.

He was rushed to the Nanyuki Huruma Hospital where he is still recuperating after the incident.

The incident follows another where a week ago a lioness  was spotted on the loose in Ongata Rongai.

The lioness which was reportedly from the  Nairobi National Park, was  spotted on CCTV cameras jumping across a perimeter wall of a residential compound after which it proceeded to maul a dog to death.

Following the incident, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) issued a statement requesting residents of the area to remain vigilant as the agency worked towards capturing the animal.

In another incident, a couple from Isiolo narrowly escaped death after they successfully wrestled a lion on February 6.

The two, who were walking home through Isiolo Forest were attacked by the lion which sneaked up on the lady.

In a dramatic turn of events however, the couple wrestled the animal during which they sustained injuries in their legs and hands.
