A couple in Isiolo narrowly escaped death after they successfully wrestled a lion on Tuesday evening, February 6.

The couple was walking in Isiolo Forest when the lion crept up on them from behind and attacked the lady first.

In a scramble for her dear life, the woman outran her husband, who was tackled to the ground by the predator

Luckily, the couple had a machete in their possession, which they used to fend off the lion and successfully chase it away from the man.

While describing the harrowing experience, the visibly shaken man elaborated that the lion pounced on his wife and clawed into her legs.

β€œIt attacked my wife first, who later outran me. The lion then attacked me and pushed me to the ground while scratching my sides".

β€œI later asked my wife for the panga that was lying on the ground which I used to attack the animal,” narrated the victim.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the couple sustained severe injuries and were scarred all over their arms and legs.

Consequently, the man urged the government to address the human-wildlife conflict in the area to avoid similar incidents.

The incident occurred a day after Multimedia University students protested a hyena attack that left one of their colleagues severely injured.

Since the year started, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has been in the spotlight for failing to handle human-wildlife conflict.

In early January, cases of hyena attacks spiralled, with the majority of the attacks recorded along Thika Road. KWS advised victims to face the hyenas and talk to them rather than run away hence intiating an attack.
