President William Ruto jetted out of the country on Thursday, June 13, to Italy to attend the 50th G7 Summit meeting.

At the G7 Summit, President Ruto will emphasise the importance of involving African countries in finding solutions to global challenges such as climate change, peace and security, including war and other conflicts.

Ruto will also highlight Africa’s potential for green industrialisation, digital revolution and innovation and cite the huge renewable energy reserves on the continent.

"These renewable energy resources can help many developed countries achieve their Netzero targets by 2050," State House Nairobi said in a statement on their official social media platforms.

Additionally, the head of state will outline African Union reforms aimed at enhancing trade and development, peace and stability and greater global participation.

"President Ruto has been persistent in calling for the reform of the international financing architecture, including multilateral development banks, to ensure inclusivity and fair representation. He has stressed the need to democratise the boards of multilateral development banks, ensuring that all members have an equal say in their management," the brief stated.

Ruto pointed out that the current international financial architecture was unfair and needed correction to incorporate the interests of developing countries.

The summit includes countries that share common values such as political pluralism, liberal democracy and representative government.

The Group of Seven is an intergovernmental political and economic forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States; additionally, the European Union is a "non-enumerated member".

Other attendees include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union. Other African heads of State attending the summit include the President of Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia.

The summit will address critical global issues of international cooperation.

Ruto has been vocal about the prioritisation of African nations in making international laws in finance, climate change, and governance among others.

On Sunday, the President will then depart to Switzerland to engage with other leaders on the conflict in Ukraine.

Specifically, the President will be highlighting the impact of the conflict on Africa given that some countries import goods from Ukraine.
