Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that a section of Mombasa Road will be closed for repairs.

In a statement on Sunday, the authority noted that the temporary closure will affect the Mombasa-bound lane between Salama and Sultan Hamud.

The closure will take effect on Sunday, June 23, at midnight and resume on Monday, July 1.

KeNHA Director General Engineer Kungu Ndungu revealed that the temporary closure was necessary to aid in highway maintenance works at the section.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to inform the public that there will be a temporary closure of a section of Mombasa Road (A8), Mombasa bound lanes between Salama and Sultan Hamud, which is 11km from Salama towards Mombasa and 10km from Sultan Hamud towards Nairobi. This closure will commence from Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Midnight to Monday, July 1, 2024, at 6:00 am," read the notice in part.

KeNHA informed motorists that one lane of the highway would remain closed while the other would remain in operation.

As a result, the Authority directed motorists that the Nairobi-bound traffic will use a diversion while the Mombasa-bound traffic will use the operational lane on the carriageway.

The motorists were further advised to approach the section with caution while paying attention to the traffic signs and traffic marshalls.

Seven days ago, KeNHA had also announced the eight-day closure of a section of Mombasa Road affecting motorists to and from Nairobi.

The authority at the time revealed that the affected road was Mombasa Road (A8), the Mombasa-bound lanes at Lake Oil Petrol Station. The road is 4 kilometres and before Malili Town while heading to Mombasa.

The closure began on Saturday, June 15, at midnight and the road was reopened on Sunday, June 23, at 6 am.
