As the country prepares itself for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, which kicks off on August 2, the government has outlined stringent requirements for fans planning to attend the matches.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on Wednesday, July 23, explained that the new protocols are designed to guarantee a secure and seamless experience for all attendees.

Among the Key directives as outlined by the CS is a complete shift to digital ticketing. Fans will only be allowed entry into stadiums with valid online tickets, with no physical tickets accepted at any gate.

''All tickets will be sold exclusively online. No physical tickets will be accepted at any gate,'' the CS said.

To tighten security, the Ministry has introduced four layers of screening at all stadiums. These checkpoints will verify ticket authenticity, conduct security scans and control crowd movement to prevent stampedes and unauthorised access.

''Our layers of screening will be in place to ensure secure, efficient movement into and around the stadiums,'' the CS continued.

For those with a tendency to trespass events without tickets, the CS reiterated that only those with tickets would be allowed in and advised all those interested to buy the tickets online.

"Entry will be strictly limited to those with valid digital tickets. Without one, you will not be allowed access," the CS emphasised.

To enhance safety during the matches, the Ministry has introduced four layers of screening at all stadiums. The checkpoints will confirm ticket authenticity, conduct security scans, and manage crowd flow to prevent stampedes and unauthorized access.

The move aligns with CAF’s safety protocols, which require host nations to maintain strict crowd control standards.

The Ministry has also operationalized a CHAN Security Hotline where residents and fans can report suspicious behavior, threats, or safety concerns in real time.

CHAN 2025 will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, with Nairobi staging all of Kenya’s Group A matches and the tournament’s final on August 30. The Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium have been earmarked as the primary venues.
