The Law Society of Kenya has confirmed Gabriel Oguda’s release after he went missing on Monday evening.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, LSK Chairperson Faith Odhiambo revealed that Oguda had been held at Kajiado Police Station before his release.
Odhiambo further disclosed that Oguda was released due to a lack of charges against him, as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) declined to prosecute him.
The LSK stated that the activist was moved to a safe location following his release. His brother also confirmed his release, thanking supporters for their backing throughout the ordeal.
Earlier on Wednesday, June 26, morning, Oguda’s brother, Zachary Oguda, stated that he was tracking the individuals who had detained his brother and managed to corner them in Kajiado.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Zachary revealed that they had reached Kajiado and were holding his brother at the ODPP’s office.
“I’ve cornered these guys at Kajiado Town with their team. They've branched at the ODPP holding area near the Kajiado county assembly and I'm not leaving here without my brother,” Zachary had stated.
Oguda, who went missing on Monday evening, was not released alongside other abductees who had been taken in on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Other social media personalities vocal on the X platform, such as Osama Otero, Drey Mwangi, and LSK Chief of Staff Ernest Nyerere, were released on Tuesday.
This was despite the intervention of Minority Leader in Parliament Opiyo Wandayi, Oguda’s employer.
Wandayi had requested a statement on the whereabouts of the political activist, prompting the speaker to issue an ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police.
However, Oguda remained untraced and incommunicado until Wednesday morning when he was found.
