Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday on behalf of Azimio la Umoja Coalition demanded the immediate release of all Kenyans who were arrested in connection to the Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations.

During a press briefing, Kalonzo stated that should the abducted Kenyans not be released, Azimio would seek avenues to hold the national government accountable.

Additionally, Kalonzo accused the President of being a dictator in running the country alleging that the Head of State had suspended the constitution.

The former vice president stated that Ruto failed the nation by refusing to condole and sympathise with Kenyans who were met with excessive force by the police during the demonstrations.

Ruto in his address to the nation on Tuesday night had remarked that the demonstrations witnessed in most parts of the country had been infiltrated by criminals.

“Ruto must tell the nation who these abattoirs, funders and orchestrators of the anti-finance bill demonstration as he alleged last night are,” he stated indicating Azimio would be following legal channels on the issue.

Kalonzo remarked that should Ruto not reveal the names as demanded, it would mean that the hijackings and abductions as well as incommunicado detentions witnessed in the country were sanctioned by the State.

“We demand an end to the Gestapo-like abductions, killing and immediate release of all abductees,” he issued an ultimatum.

The Wiper Leader further accused Ruto of congratulating police officers who had killed and injured peaceful demonstrators.

He remarked this was akin to what happened in 2023 when over 75 Kenyans were killed during opposition-led protests.

Flanked by other Azimio Principals, Kalonzo further remarked it was unlawful for Ruto to deploy the military to quell protests.

“He has gone further to declare marshal law and in the process deployed the military and therefore war against his own citizens,” he stated.

In solidarity with injured Kenyans, Kalonzo stated that Azimio politicians would donate blood at Kenyatta National Hospital.
