NARC-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua on Wednesday lamented the loss of Kenyan lives following the violence stemming from Tuesday's anti-finance bill protests.

Speaking during a press conference, Karua urged the government to take into account the people’s voice insisting that the will of the Kenyan people cannot be brushed off.

The former Justice Minister also weighed in on the President William Ruto' speech after the Head of State termed Tuesday's events as treasonous.

“The people's voice is the voice of God, not the voice of treason and it should be heard," Martha Karua remarked.

Karua in her speech further added that the older generation was considering joining the protests which have up until now been spearheaded by the youth.

“When people stand together they shall never be defeated as your parents, those of us who are old enough to be your parents and grandparents are beginning to wonder whether we should not join our children and grandchildren, in demanding that the constitution of Kenya be respected, stated Karua.

According to Karua, the Executive's decision to deploy the Kenya Defence Forces(KDF) on Tuesday was an affront and a direct attack on the 2010 Constitution.

The former Justice Minister remarked that the deployment of the KDF was unconstitutional and unjustified as the KDF ought only to be deployed to secure Kenya's borders or respond to emergency situations.

This came after Parliament on Wednesday morning reportedly ratified the deployment in a sitting which was not televised.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo confirmed that the ratification was concluded in 30 minutes which he described as a first.

This was after the National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah tabled a motion seeking to legally ratify the government's decision to deploy the KDF to quell the situation in the country.

Elsewhere, Azimio Principal Kalonzo Musyoka on the same day issued an ultimatum to the government asking President William Ruto to engage Kenyans in dialogue over the protests.
