Learners at the Kitelakapel Training Institute in West Pokot were on Thursday, June 27, forced to seek refuge inside their classrooms after an armed gang invaded the school.

The students could be captured scampering for safety as a group of armed men rushed after them from behind.

Despite the threats to harm them, the students gained courage and came out in large numbers forcing some of the armed men to flee.

However, some of the attackers were corned by the students who went ahead and locked them inside one of the rooms within the school.

Police officers were later informed of the incident and quickly arrived at the school where they picked up the cornered gang members.

The main reason behind the attack has not yet been established with police commencing investigations into the tragic incident.

Nonetheless, sources privy to the incident, the gang allegedly attacked the school to set it ablaze. The incident occurred as police officers patrolled the region to control demonstrations.

In a similar incident two months ago, goons in Mombasa allegedly raided a school situated in the Nyali area and demolished the institution's perimeter wall.

According to area residents, a wealthy family member claimed ownership of the land in which the school was located, prompting him to hire goons to invade the school.

The residents further claimed that the gang threatened the teachers and area residents with eviction, verbally attacking the people present on the school grounds during the invasion.

“We have tried to report at the county offices, so we get to buy part of the land where our houses are, instead of paying rent for the rest of our lives,” one resident claimed.

“The owner of this place is involved with people in authority, that is what has delayed these cases for so long,” he added.
