The Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Sunday evening denied claims of the abduction of former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter.

In a statement issued by the DCI, it was confirmed that the former legislator was arrested by the National Police Service on Sunday afternoon.

The DCI further stated that the EX-MP was charged with conspiracy to traffic firearms and incitement to violence.

“Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence,” stated DCI.

The DCI further confirmed that Keter was booked at Kamukunji Police Station and later released pending a forensic analysis of exhibits in possession of the DCI.

Further, the DCI confirmed that the former legislator’s file will be forwarded to the ODPP for further directions.

In its statement, the DCI urged Kenyans to refrain from acts of violence, hate speech and malice for sustained peace and security in the country.

This clarification came after a video went viral where the legislator was seen forcefully been drawn from his car amid cries for help.

The legislator was also seen being bundled into a pick-up truck by a hooded group of men before being driven away

Earlier on Sunday, media reports had also alleged that Keter had  been taken in circles in Nairobi before being booked at Kamukunji Police Station.

The video also elicited reactions from several quarters including the Principal Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Kipkorir Sing'oei who condemned the manner of arrest.

He further stated that the government was required to adhere to the rule of law even while conducting arrests.
