Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo on Monday, July 1, announced that Paul Mwangi Wambu alias Jiji had been abducted.
According to the LSK President, the abduction happened in Githurai at 5 am.
Mwangi has been a sharp critic of President William Ruto’s administration, especially on the matters of the now-scrapped Finance Bill 2024.
“This must come to an end. Release Paul immediately,” the LSK President demanded.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Faith Odhiambo revealed that Mwangi was picked up from his home and his whereabouts were unknown.
She explained that Mwangi had taken part in the protests that were largely youth-driven to pressure the government to reduce taxes imposed on Kenyans.
Mwangi joined a growing list of Kenyans who have been abducted, hijacked or arrested in the last two weeks.
His abduction happened a few hours after former Nandi Hill Member of Parliament Alfred Keter was taken in broad daylight while coming from church.
Keter had been whisked by men in plainclothes from his SUV raising fears that he had been abducted.
Hours later, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released a statement noting that Keter was in police custody.
On Sunday, during a roundtable media interview, President William Ruto downplayed cases of police abductions.
He stated that most Kenyans rumoured to have been abducted were arrested by the police and released or charged within the stipulated 24 hours.
