The United States Embassy on Wednesday issued a notice stating that its consulate office in Nairobi would remain closed on Thursday.
The Embassy noted that the closure was to allow for the celebration of the Fourth of July Independence Day Celebrations.
All services which are offered at the Embassy will resume on Friday July 5, 2024
“The Embassy will be closed on July 4, 2024, in observance of U.S. Independence Day,” read the notice.
Independence Day, in the United States, is the annual celebration of nationhood where the country commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress.
The Declaration was made on July 4, 1776.
Notably, the United States Congress voted in favor of independence from Great Britain on July 2, 1776, but completed the review and adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later, on July 4, 1776.
While the US Embassy in Nairobi will be closed for different reasons on Thursday, America has continued to issue advisories to its citizens in light of the protests that have been witnessed in the country.
The Embassy advised its citizens stating that although the organisers of the anti-government demos had indicated the protests would be peaceful, the picketing had the potential to escalate and become violent.
US citizens were requested to avoid protest areas and demonstrations, avoid crowds, keep a low profile.
The Embassy also advised American citizens to monitor local media, notify friends and family of their whereabouts, beware of surroundings, review their personal security plans, and carry US passports and Kenyan visas at all times.
Further, the citizens were warned of potential traffic disruptions and opportunistic crimes that might occur amid the protests.
