A sombre mood engulfed Moyale Sub-County in Marsabit after a senior police officer of the rank of an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) succumbed after shooting himself.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the high-ranking officer reportedly used his Ceska pistol to end his life on Tuesday night at around 11 p.m.

The Inspector was alone in his house when colleagues who resided nearby heard the sound of a gunshot emanating from the OCS’s home.

"The Dabel Police Station OCS shot himself in the chin with the bullet exiting the forehead using a Ceska pistol," read part of the police report.

Police who conducted preliminary investigations on the matter managed to recover about 14 rounds of ammunition near the deceased’s body.

Following the tragedy, the Moyale Sub-County Police Commander and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations visited the scene as a probe commenced into the officer's mysterious death.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to the Moyale Sub-County Hospital awaiting postmortem.

The tragic death of the Moyale OCS comes barely two months after a newly recruited police officer died by suicide at the Burduras West Location shortly after reporting to his new designation.

According to a police report, the locals found the body of the deceased hanging on a tree and alerted the police about the incident.

Officers based at Burduras Police Station rushed to the scene and confirmed the identity of the deceased as a newly appointed administration police officer.

Moments after the junior officer's death, the Takaba OCS and DCI personnel from Mandera West Sub-County visited the scene to document the events.
