Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata on Thursday clarified that a former Chief Executive Committee Member who bought a house in the US never served in his administration.

The Governor was responding to reports that the former official bought a Ksh257 million (USD2 million) home in Washington State in the US a few months ago.

In his statement, Kang'ata vehemently denied that he was his CEC explaining that the former Minister in question only served in the previous regime.

He further noted that during the former CECM tenure, Maragwa Milk Factory ran into headwinds which have since been stabilised in the current regime.

"Paul Macharia is not our CEC. He served in the former county regime as CEC and left Kenya before we took office," Kang'ata explained.

"He was in charge of the department that superintended Maragwa Milk Factory. The factory fell immediately before he left the country. It has now been revived."

Kenyans.co.ke, however, could not independently verify Kang'ata's claims nor authenticate reports of the house's purchase.

Kang'ata, since taking over the reins in Murang'a, has touted the success of his administration both in revenue generation and service delivery.

Yesterday, the governor revealed that in the Financial Year that ended June 30, the county collected Ksh1.116 billion far outpacing past regimes' efforts.

He noted that the revenue, which was over Ksh1.61 billion more than the projected revenue of Ksh1.115billion, enabled the county to carry on with several programmes including the conversion of casual employees to contracts.

Other programmes included the employment of more ECDE teachers, nurses, and clinical officers, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) programme, Community Projects, Inua Mkulima as well as a school feeding programme.

"The County collected 1,116,610,604.14. For the first time, the County had a surplus of Ksh 1,610,604.14," he stated.

"The County thanks Murang'a County residents who have dutifully paid their taxes; it's staff whose collection efforts have borne these good results and the assembly whose planning enabled this budget."
