Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday called on the government to crack the whip on politicians living exorbitant lifestyles.

While addressing a congregation during a funeral service in Kericho County, Murkomen proposed a lifestyle audit be conducted on all politicians.

According to Murkomen, this would help to address the concerns that state and public officers were living beyond their means.

Murkomen called on Members of Parliament to urgently introduce and pass the Lifestyle Audit Bill to provide the parameters for auditing the state and public officers.

He further called for an investigation into the living standards of some of the politicians to ascertain consistency with their lawful income.

“The Bill should among others set the maximum cost of personal wear/outfits, cars etc,” Murkomen stated.

"So that I won't only be about specific politicians like me who dress decently. Let it be a public position as a country so that we have a common system," the CS added.

The CS also proposed a national discussion be convened every year that will see every Cabinet Secretary submit a report on progress within their respective ministries.

"This is because if we don't recommend such measures, we will just be spreading rumours about some of these things. This will help prevent such instances," Murkomen stated.

The CS also took a swipe at Kenyans for demanding development despite rejecting the Road Maintenance Levy.

Murkomen's sentiments come hardly a day after a section of Kenyans called on President Ruto to overhaul the cabinet and make fresh appointments.

In his response, Ruto clarified that he would consider other means of addressing matters raised by the public against some of the cabinet secretaries.

“I will not dissolve Cabinet because I am in the process of looking at things differently,” President Ruto clarified.
