Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi on Sunday confirmed that there was a rift between him and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Wamumbi who took to social media dismissed claims that the falling out was due to the fight against illicit brews and the closure of several bars.

"It is true, there is a rift between the Deputy President and I. The rift is not about the closed bars in Karatina town which have left the town dead for four months," he stated.

He called out the DP for allegedly making false allegations and urged him to tell Kenyans the truth about the actual reason they were at loggerheads.

The politician emphasised that he would tell the truth and allow the people of Mathira to decide which narrative was true. He however did not reveal when he would be sharing his side of the story.

"It is about something bigger than that, he should say the truth and nothing but the truth," he added.

Wamumbi's remarks came a few hours after Gachagua called him out and vowed to take action for the alleged sabotage of his project to stop the sale of illicit brew in the region.

Gachagua spoke during a church service in the constituency, adding that he had directed all security officers to ignore the MP's orders on reopening bars.

"An MP cannot instruct security officers, if security officers from this region are taking instructions from an MP, we shall discipline them," he remarked.

The Second in Command emphasised that he was tasked by President William Ruto to end the menace of drug abuse in the country adding that the vice had destroyed the lives of hundreds of young Kenyans.

Gachagua complained the reopening of bars in the constituency was putting the lives of young men at risk. Earlier, the DP argued that young men were the future of Kenya.

To add to his frustration on reopening bars, Gachagua revealed that while going to the service, he saw some young men intoxicated and lying in ditches.
