Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino on Tuesday appointed himself as the authority in-charge of opposition matters in the country.

Babu who spoke after Azimio party leader Raila Odinga called for dialogue between the government and young Kenyans disclosed that he would wear the cap previously donned by Odinga to liberate Kenya especially since the current regime was not performing to Kenyans' expectations.

"I will continue playing the role of opposition, keeping checks and balances on this defunct government under the doctrine of separation of powers, checks and balances as opined by Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brède de Montesquieu in the 17th century," he stated.

Babu Owino reiterated his fidelity and loyalty to his political philosophy of holding governments accountable, moreso, the Kenya Kwanza administration he described as 'useless' in a separate tweet.

Raila on Tuesday in a joint press meeting with President William Ruto and a host of other leaders, announced his support for the Head of State's plan to form a multi-sectoral forum to address the issues raised by Kenyans recently.

"We have agreed we give people an opportunity to be heard, express themselves and come out with the grievances that are ailing our country today so that a lasting solution can be found," he stated.

He emphasised that after the meeting with Ruto, it was resolved that the only way to deal with the country's current crisis was to hold dialogue.

Earlier, the lawmaker sided with young Kenyans calling for Ruto's resignation due to his alleged failure to fulfil his promises to the people and proposing to increase taxes.

"Gen Z's will send Ruto into political oblivion, which is the entombment of the unworthy into their own dust of nothingness," he wrote on July 6.

Babu was among the leaders who opposed Raila's move to support President Ruto. Raila Odinga Jr., the opposition supremo's son also addressed the issue hinting at having different political views from his father.

Additionally, a section of Kenyans also called out the former Prime Minister for the alleged betrayal adding that dialogue would not resolve the crucial matters raised.

Despite the criticism, some leaders backed Raila's move to support Ruto and his call for dialogue to chart a way forward.
