President William Ruto on Sunday hinted that he would be forming a government of national unity ahead of cabinet reconstitution

Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Ndogino in Nyandarua, Ruto hinted that his next cabinet will be an all-inclusive unit that will merge the interests of all political factions.

“Do you agree that I should create a new government that unites all Kenyans?”, Ruto asked the congregation.

He further requested the public’s support in the new endeavour citing that it was necessary to unite all Kenyans.

“ Please pray for me as I embark on that so that I coordinate the government well and unite all Kenyans,” he added.

The President’s remarks fueled the speculation that Kenya Kwanza and Azimio had reached a deal to share cabinet dockets.

In the recent developments, the country has seen Ruto and the opposition leader Raila Odinga come together in the political spheres with the most notable episode being when the President assented to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Bill at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) last week.

As Ruto was assenting to the piece of legislation, Raila backed the president's call for dialogue with Kenyan youth who have continued to express dissatisfaction with the country’s leadership.

However, despite the display of national unity during the assent on July 9,  the Azimio camp later clarified their backing of the dialogue calls.

According to the ODM Party, Raila had called for the government to address the issues facing the youth and avert a crisis.

"The Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga called for a national conversation on the issues being raised by the youth of Kenya and other voices on how we can create a more perfect nation that takes care of its citizens," said ODM National Chairman and Nominated MP, John Mbadi.

However, Raila later backtracked from the position, revealing that he had taken note of Kenyans' resistance to the proposed dialogue and a possible handshake.

Additionally,  during a burial ceremony held in Butere on Saturday, the Azimio supremo revealed that he had declined to honour Ruto’s invite to State House where the assent to the IEBC bill was initially scheduled to take place.

The former Prime Minister stated that he had asked Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s to represent him at the State House event but the latter declined forcing him to avail himself at KICC.

Kalonzo while speaking at the same funeral service in Butere, warned Raila of engaging in the dialogue with the President stating that it would be a futile venture.
