Kenyans seeking to register businesses were left in limbo for several hours as business name search services remained unavailable on eCitizen.
According to the Business Registration Service (BRS) the crucial services were unavailable on both the e-Citizen platform and on the Business Registration Service Website (BRS) on Wednesday.
According to the agency, the Official Search for Private and Public Limited companies and the business name search services experienced intermittent disruptions.
“Customers and the public experienced intermittent disruptions when accessing other services on both the brs.ecitizen.go.ke and brsv2.ecitizen.go.ke, stated the BRS Director General.
Further, the statement issued on Wednesday explained that the challenge in accessing the services was caused by a technical glitch.
“Critical services such as the Official Search, commonly known as ("CR12" and "CR13") for Private & Public Limited Companies and Business Names are currently unavailable due to unexpected technical glitches”, read the statement in part.
The BRS confirmed working to restore the services while assuring Kenyans of updates on the progress of the matter.
However, despite the notice of disruption, the BRS was yet to confirm resumption of the services by the time of publishing this article.
The glitches in the system come after, the President signed a deal with an American company to help strengthen the government’s cybersecurity infrastructure.
During his State visit to the United States in May President William Ruto turned to Google, Alphabet's flagship company, to strengthen its digital infrastructure nearly a year after Kenya suffered devastating attacks on critical IT infrastructure.
Ruto met leaders from Google who agreed to launch a cybersecurity operations platform in the country.
The platform is aimed at strengthening the infrastructure against attacks from hackers and cybercriminals.
