A businessman by the name of Karisa Mae was reportedly abducted from a matatu on Monday evening.

According to family reports, Karisa was on his way home after taking his child to school, while in a matatu headed to Malindi from Kilifi.

However,  three vehicles intercepted the matatu he was in along the Arabuko area, stopping the vehicle from continuing its journey.

Eyewitness reports of those travelling in the matatu with Karisa indicated that the businessman was forced out of the vehicle by hooded gentlemen.

Additionally, the eyewitnesses reported that the three vehicles’ registration plates were civilian number plates.

However, the Malindi Sub-County Commander, Wilmot Mwakio, stated that he was unaware of the alleged abduction.

The Commander further reported that the incident was conducted beyond his jurisdiction but would be instigating a probe on the matter.

In another twist to the kidnapping, the family have reported that Karisa’s woes began when he was implicated in a case in February this year which saw him being trailed.

However, they did not close the matter which led to the case at hand.

The incidences of enforced disappearances and abductions conducted in arbitrary manners have spiked in the past few weeks following the protests that have rocked the country.

In an incident that sparked nationwide uproar, veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho, currently attached to Nation Media Group, was abducted at Karen Police Station while in the company of his son on Wednesday.

Gaitho was travelling in the company of his son when he noticed a car trailing them, forcing him to seek refuge at the Karen Police Station.

However, he was bundled into a Probox vehicle a few moments later by DCI officials who later released him claiming a case of mistaken identity.
